Go for a railbike ride and soak up all the charm of the wooded countryside along the green coast of Vendée.

Starting point

COMMEQUIERS STATION

Your adventure begins in Commequiers, passes via Saint Maixent sur Vie, and ends at the small village of Coëx.
From Commequiers station, take to the shady route on a railbike, or draisine, that was previously used for railway maintenance.

VIADUCT OVER THE RIVER VIE

You’ll cross the River Vie on a viaduct assembled from ramparts and rivets, much like the constructions built by Eiffel. Here the rhythmic sound of the railbike on the track mingles with the sleepy atmosphere of this tranquil site.

The River Vie

The “Vie” is a river that feeds the marshes of Vendée. It includes 13 kilometres of navigable waterway.

THE VILLAGE OF DOLBEAU

You’ll travel through Dolbeau where the silhouette of the old station of Saint Maixent sur Vie still towers above the village, as do the grain silos dating from 1935.

The Railbike offers an outdoor adventure largely in the shade of woodlands but also across farmland plains.

WHEN YOU REACH COËX, TIME TO TURN BACK!

After travelling along the railway for 7km, you’ll arrive at the village of Coëx. There you’ll find a clever turntable system that allows you to effortlessly turn your railbike around for the return trip.
